Description of Current Monetary Funds at SCHS

Most income and donations for the Shelter go into our "General Fund." In addition to our General
Fund, we have the special funds described below. Individuals, families, or organizations
interested in setting up their own special Funds are encouraged to talk with the Shelter Director
about options and requirements.
SCHS is a 501-3-C non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible!
General Shelter Fund: This Fund covers the vast bulk of our everyday operating costs to care for the animals:
Food, medicine, cleaning staff, utilities to heat the building, operating costs for the Animal Control van, and all the
other costs necessary to run our wonderful Shelter. We appreciate donations to this Fund because they give us the most
flexibility. Through the General Fund, donors can specify support for the Shelter's various Education
programs.
Thelma Wollum Spay/Neuter Fund: This Fund was set up after the death of Thelma Wollum, who was an avid animal
lover her entire life. Thelma was a magnet for strays, whom she often befriended. Her fondness for strays made her a
firm believer in the importance of spaying/neutering animals. After Thelma's death, her family and friends started
this Fund to help cover the costs of spaying/neutering Shelter animals before adoption. They continue to donate to
this Fund, and others can also. This is a very important Fund for the Shelter because, if it is adequately supported,
we can guarantee that the animals being adopted from our Shelter will not have puppies or kittens themselves.
Betsy's Fund: Betsy's Fund was established in honor of Betsy, a small dog who arrived at the Shelter in terrible
condition. Betsy was starving and quite ill, and needed vet care that we could not provide. This Fund exists to
provide medical care to homeless animals who, without this fund, might otherwise immediately be euthanized because of
their condition requires care beyond what we can currently supply. We rely on donations to maintain this Fund.
Josh Diehm Fund: Josh Diehm and his wife, Jean, were life-long animal lovers. When Josh died at the end of
1997, his wife gave money to set up a Fund to provide financial help for qualifying (disabled; senior citizen; and/or
low income) people who find themselves facing unexpected vet bills for their pets. We rely on donations to help
maintain this Fund.
Spay/Neuter Assistance Fund (SNAP): This fund was set up to help qualifying people (low income; disabled; senior
citizen) who seek help paying for the cost to spay/neuter their own pet(s). We rely on donations to help maintain
this Fund.
